Lesson 6 - Electricity
In this lesson we take a closer look at electricity from a utilities perspective. We will review the basics of electricity and consider the different forms (direct current and alternating current, single phase, and three phase) and voltages. The basic reticulation systems within the brewery will also be covered
Lesson Sign-off
This lesson dealt with electricity. We looked at DC and AC power, and single-phase and three-phase power. We also looked at some important aspects such as power factor, maximum demand, and electrical safety measures.
You should now be able to:
-
Describe the basic elements of electricity.
-
Recommend where in the brewery to use DC and AC power as well as single-phase and three-phase power.
-
Explain the differences between earthing, grounding, and overload protection.
-
Recommend where to use soft starters or VSDs.
A self-assessment lesson will now follow. This will give you the opportunity to determine the level to which you have met these learning outcomes.
