We will review the basics of electricity and consider the different forms (direct current and alternating current, single phase, and three phase) and voltages. Preface
Electricity is the heartbeat of the brewery. Without it, our ability to do virtually anything is compromised.
What exactly is electricity? For most of us it is that magical stuff that comes out of a wall plug or socket. Because we cannot see it, for many it is something they learn about at school and then ignore.
In the brewery, it plays an integral role in powering a vast range of equipment. It is also responsible for a significant portion of the brewery’s total energy consumption, so understanding how it works, how it is distributed, and how it is generated is important.
Let us start by reviewing the basics of electricity.
