Lesson Sign-off

In this lesson, we considered the unique property of viscosity of fluids (gases and liquids) which allows them to flow. We explored the classification of fluid viscosity behaviour by so-called Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. We then examined the nature of static fluids, which included the concept of pressure and head. We finished the lesson with a discussion on the different types of instrumentation for measuring pressure.

You should now be able to:

  1. Understand the concept of viscosity related to fluids.

  2. Understand the difference between Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, as described by Newton’s law of viscosity.

  3. Solve static fluid problems to determine the value of pressure in practical situations and understand which parameters can influence the value of pressure.

  4. Describe different types of pressure instrumentation.

A self-assessment lesson now follows, which will allow you to determine the level to which you have attained the above outcomes.
