Lesson 6 - Principles of Fluid Mechanics 3
This lesson considers the factors which contribute to pressure loss when fluid follows through a pipe or duct system. It will examine in detail, the factors which contribute to frictional pressure losses and also losses due to the presence of fittings in the pipeline.
Lesson Information
Pre-requisite Knowledge:
-
Principles of Fluid Mechanics 1 (Fluid Mechanics/Lesson 2)
-
Principles of Fluid Mechanics 2 (Fluid Mechanics/Lesson 4)
Learning Outcomes:
-
Describe the contribution and causes of frictional and fitting pressure losses to the pressure drop in a pipe or duct system.
-
Apply the Darcy-Weisbach equation and Moody diagram to quantify frictional pressure drop.
-
Apply the loss coefficient approach to quantify pressure losses due to pipe and duct fittings.
-
Specify typical design pipe and duct velocities and pressure drops.
