Lesson 5 - Process Instrumentation SAQ
This lesson allows you to test yourself on the material covered in the Process Instrumentation lesson and determine the level to which you have met the learning outcomes.
Suggested Response - Q3
* Answer the following questions:
a) How does an RTD work?
b) You have a temperature sensor installed on your wort line. It is imperative that you control temperature accurately. What specification of RTD would you make to ensure the accuracy you need?
Response:
a) An RTD works on the principle that a metal’s resistance increases with increased temperature. A metal resistor in the sensor changes as the temperature does.
b) A three- or four-wire RTD should be specified. This allows for a higher reading accuracy because the resistance of the RTD wiring can be factored into the overall resistance reading.
