Lesson 5 - Process Instrumentation SAQ
This lesson allows you to test yourself on the material covered in the Process Instrumentation lesson and determine the level to which you have met the learning outcomes.
Suggested Response - Q2
* Explain how you would use a point level switch and a continuous level transmitter. Give examples of where each would be used.
Response:
Point level switches are used in cases where we only need to know a few points within the vessel, such as an empty, full, or intermediate point. Continuous level transmitters are used to monitor the overall contents of a vessel; however, foam can cause inaccuracies with certain types of continuous level transmitters.
A point level switch might be used in an application such as a water tank, whereas a continuous level transmitter might be used for a wort kettle, where you would want to see the level increase as the vessel is being filled.
