Lesson 5 - Process Instrumentation SAQ
This lesson allows you to test yourself on the material covered in the Process Instrumentation lesson and determine the level to which you have met the learning outcomes.
Suggested Response - Q1
* Make the following recommendations:
a) Why should you use an ISFET pH sensor instead of a glass sensor?
b) Why should you use an oscillating tube density meter and not a sound velocity density meter?
c) When would you use manual instruments instead of electronic instruments?
Response:
a) An ISFET pH sensor is used when glass is undesirable and where a more robust sensor is needed. An ISFET sensor does not require regular calibration and it can withstand harsh conditions such as exposure to cleaning chemicals and high temperatures.
b) An oscillating tube density meter is more accurate and is used for applications where accuracy is critical.
c) Manual instruments are used for checking non-routine, non-critical parameters in person in the field. Electronic instruments are used for permanent control and monitoring.
