Lesson 4 - Convection
This lesson deals with the principles and application of a form of heat transfer called convection. More specifically, it describes the heat transfer mechanisms that involve convection and calculation methods for heat transfer rates determined by convection and phase changes.
Lesson Sign-off
This lesson described the heat transfer mechanisms that involve convection.
You should now be able to:
-
Describe the mechanism by which convective heat transfer occurs at a solid surface, between it and the fluid adjacent to it.
-
Define and explain the importance of the film heat transfer coefficient.
-
Describe and give examples of natural and forced convection.
-
Describe the mechanisms of boiling and condensation.
A self-assessment lesson will now follow. This will give you the opportunity to determine the level to which you have met these learning outcomes.
