Lesson 5 - Wort Separation Technology SAQ
This lesson allows you to test yourself on the material covered in Lesson 4 on ‘Wort Separation Technology’ and determine the level to which you have attained the outcomes.
Suggested Response - Q2
*Briefly explain the difference between a spent grain hopper and a spent grain storage silo.
Response: In a rapid batch brewhouse, the time available to discharge 10 t of spent grain may be less than 15 min. Spent grain is difficult to move, and a pneumoveyor transfer to a spent grains storage silo may take 60-90 min. The spent grain hopper is a buffer tank designed to receive the whole brew in 10-15 min. The wort separation device can then continue with the next brew, while the pneumoveyor is transferring spent grain to the storage silo.
