Lesson 8 - Malt Final SAQ
This lesson allows you to test yourself on the material covered in all previous malt lessons and determine the level to which you have attained the outcomes.
Suggested Response - Q2
**You are experiencing problems with milling your malt. The malt is visually grey, has lost its malty smell, and is soft. What is the root cause for these milling issues?
Response:
Slack malt leads to milling difficulties. It is formed when the malt is either released at high moisture from the malting plant, and/or it absorbs moisture from its surroundings. The malt is too soft to mill. It will flatten but will not reduce the size of the starchy endosperm.
